Day 101 – 11Apr2011 – Grist Mill

Project 365 – Grist Mill.

Day 101 – The “Grist Mill”, as we all call it, is located near Annapolis Royal, at/near the site where Poutrincourt first erected a “water mill” in 1607 to grind the wheat grown on the nearby dyked lands of Port Royal.

I am a little grumpy with the owners, Nova Scotia Power, for neglecting to replace the large water wheel that once resided on the end of the building, turning as power was produced. It was an iconic feature and it was very sad they did not see the value in replacing it.

Nonetheless, the Grist Mill still makes an interesting stop, and the grounds and setting are lovely. Signage at the site explains the history.
