Project 366 – Day 66 – Special Cones

Project 366 - Day 66 - Special Cones

These are the cones of our Dawn Redwoods (Metasequoia glyptostroboides). These trees are known as “living fossils” – they existed 50 million years ago and were thought to be extinct until one was found in the wild in China in 1941. Since then they have been reintroduced – we have 3 at the Gardens. They have now matured enough to produce cones.
